Legion of Mary International
Official name: Legion of Mary
Established: 1921
History: The Legion of Mary was founded in Dublin, Ireland, by a group of 15 people under the guidance of Frank Duff, a young civil servant with the Department of Finance, as a new form of apostolate, paying visits to the sick and needy in twos, like the disciples.
Prayer in common, apostolic work and the weekly meeting which all the members are required to attend, have been typical features of the Legion from the beginning. Throughout its history, the Legion of Mary has always been viewed with favor and supported by the ecclesiastical authorities in the dioceses where it has developed.
Identity: Rooted in Marian spirituality and commitment to the Holy Spirit, the life of the Legion of Mary is based on faith in the joint action of the Spirit and Our Lady in the work of redemption, and the spread of the Kingdom of God throughout the world.

In 1977 The Holy Family Catholic Church was build with the Christian Colony, many poor family who came from small villages of the country and stayed. Most Rt. Rev. Bishop Simeon Pereira (Late) with his assistant Rev. Fr. P.H. Grim Bergen MHM bought the land from the Government of Pakistan and sold it to the Christian people on easy installments. Rev. Fr. John Tool MHM was the 1st Parish Priest of this parish. In 1984, more people came from the part of the country and stayed there in this newly built Christian Colony. Then Most Rev. Bishop Simeon Pereira and Fr.P.H. Grim Bergen saw, there were many boys and girls who needed a school, where they could study easily because the other schools were very far from there. So they built a high school named St. Francis High School (On the name St. Francis Xavier).Fr. O. F. Murray (Late) was elected the 1st Principal of the school and also that time the Parish Priest of the Church. In 1989, there was no priest in-Charge in Catholic Church Christian Colony; so Most Rev. Bishop Simeon Pereira used to come for the Masses from Bishop’s House, Lalkurti every day and one seminarian Bro. Parvaiz Michael helping him. In that year when he used to go to family visit, he saw many young boys who didn’t know any thing about their religion and faith. He was very worried about those young boys. On the 17th September 1989, he collected all the boys in youth group and gave them a name” Legion Of Mary Group”.
Legion of Mary is a youth group of young boys. It came into being on 17th September 1989 in Catholic Church Christian Colony, with the Blessing of Most Rt.Rev. Bishop Simeon Pereira (Late) (Bishop of Islamabad/ Rawalpindi).Mr. Sajjad Sardar was elected 1st president of the group. Legion of Mary Group serves the Lord in Catholic Church. In 1992, again there was no priest in our Parish. Most Rev. Bishop Simeon Pereira was looking after our Parish. He was really the servant of Lord Jesus Christ; He worked very hard for the Parish and for the Diocese. His Blessing for Legion of Mary was power of hope, courage, and devotion. He infused us with new spirit, new strength, new passion, new hope and new way of Christian life. Then in March 1992 he called one MHM priest from Ireland Rev. Fr. John Nevin MHM who came in this Church as a Parish Priest; He gave us new visions, new goals, and new hopes for the Christian Community of this Church. His vocation was to witness the faith in every dimension of life: in the world of Preaching, in our families, in our community, in our parishes, in our diocese, at work, at school, and social environments. It also meant being ready to give a reason for the hope that was in us by showing others what it means to be a Christian. He gave new Courage to Legion of Mary Group to work hard for the uplifting of youth in the Church.

Prayer Request
The Concilium Legions Maria has requested that the prayer for the beatification of Frank Duff be said at the end of each meeting following the closing prayers and be said each day by all members--active and auxiliary. Also continue to pray for beatification of the other Servants of God, Edel Quinn and Alphie Lambe.
